Thomas School regularly hosts horseback riding clinics on Long Island that go beyond a typical lesson, bringing in respected voices in the sport—including Bernie Traurig, an Olympic rider across three equestrian disciplines. Clinics are open to visiting riders outside our own program, so whether you’re a Thomas School regular or trailering in from another barn, there’s a seat waiting for you. --- ## Upcoming Clinics ![Julie Winkel in front of a fence, with her dog](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Assets/Images/Clinics/Julie%20Winkle%202026/TSH-JulieWinkle26-1.jpg?width=600&name=TSH-JulieWinkle26-1.jpg) ###### January 8-10, 2027 ### Julie Winkel returns to Thomas School. You’ll get three full days to learn what the judge sees first, from one of the most respected clinicians and trainers in the country.  [Learn More](https://hopoti.com/en-us/stable/ThomasSchoolofHorsemanship) ###### Looking for what’s next after this one? ### Check our [Clinics & Events Calendar](https://hopoti.com/en-us/stable/ThomasSchoolofHorsemanship) for the full lineup. ![Clinicians provide hands-on feedback on your riding form](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Assets/Images/Clinics/666214005_1540095184782846_731873186246069440_n.jpg?width=1500&height=2000&name=666214005_1540095184782846_731873186246069440_n.jpg) ###### What to Expect ### Hands-on riding instruction, tailored to where you’re at. Clinics run in small groups, so instruction adapts to you. Depending on the clinician, that might mean jumping, dressage, eventing, equitation, flatwork, or another discipline entirely—clinics are often a chance to get coaching outside your regular discipline, not just more of the same. Expect hands-on coaching that sharpens fundamentals and technique, plus strategies riders can carry back into their regular training. That’s really the point of a horseback riding clinic. It’s not meant to replace your regular lessons; it’s meant to sharpen them, offering an outside perspective from someone who may see something your everyday instructor hasn’t caught just yet. Auditors—those who come just to watch and learn—get real value too, since a lot of what a guest clinician teaches comes through in how they talk a rider through a problem, not just in what the rider ends up doing differently. Whether you’re riding or just watching, the goal is the same: Leave knowing something you didn’t walk in with.  ###### Two Ways to Take Part ### Ride, or just watch and learn. Either way, you’re welcome at TSH. Clinics typically offer a limited number of rider spots for those trailering in their own horse, plus auditor passes for anyone who simply wants to observe. Riding or auditing, you’re getting direct access to a guest clinician’s teaching.  ![Riding spots fill up early](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hubfs/Assets/Images/Clinics/TSH-140.jpg) ### Ride Rider spots tend to be the more sought-after option, since they come with direct feedback in the saddle, so it’s worth registering early once a clinic is announced.  ![Auditors are welcome at all Thomas School clinics](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hubfs/Assets/Images/Clinics/TSH-8.jpg) ### Audit Auditors often walk away with just as much benefit, since so much of what a clinician teaches comes through in how they talk a rider through a problem.  --- Don’t count auditing out as the lesser choice, though. Some of the most useful moments in a horseback riding clinic happen in the conversation between clinician and rider. An auditor gets to sit right in on that, notebook in hand, if they want.  ![TSH-JulieWinkle26-14](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Assets/Images/Clinics/Julie%20Winkle%202026/TSH-JulieWinkle26-14.jpg?width=2000&name=TSH-JulieWinkle26-14.jpg) ###### Ready to Learn Something New? ### Whether you ride with us every week or you’re trailering in for the day, there’s a spot for you. Clinics are one of the best ways to sharpen your riding without waiting for your next lesson. Check the [Clinics & Events Calendar](https://hopoti.com/en-us/stable/ThomasSchoolofHorsemanship) for what's coming up at our equestrian facility in Jericho, New York, or explore our [Riding Lessons](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/beginner-horseback-riding-lessons?hsLang=en) if you're looking for something more regular. We’re just 30 miles from New York City.  ## FAQs ##### Do I need to own a horse to participate? Only if you want a rider spot. Those are for riders trailering in their own horse. Auditor passes don’t require a horse at all, so you can still attend and learn without one. ##### What does it cost to attend as a rider or an auditor? Check out [our booking platform](https://hopoti.com/en-us/stable/ThomasSchoolofHorsemanship/booking) for more details. ##### Is there a minimum skill level required to ride in a clinic? You need to at least be able to jump a rail.  ##### Can family members come just to watch, without registering as an auditor? Yes, family members are welcome to watch.  [![Logo](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hubfs/raw_assets/public/thomas-school-theme/images/logos/logo.svg)](https://tshcamp.com/) ###### Location 62 Route 106 Jericho, NY 11545 ###### Hours Mon-Fri: 10am - 7:30pm Sat-Sun: 9am - 4:00pm [![Visit Thomas School in Instagram](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hubfs/Assets/Icons/icon-instagram.svg)](https://www.instagram.com/thomaschool/?hl=en) [![Visit Thomas School in Facebook](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hubfs/Assets/Icons/icon-facebook.svg)](https://www.facebook.com/tshcamp/) - Competitions - [IEA Team](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/iea-team) - [Schooling Shows](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/schooling-shows) - Education - [Clinics](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/clinics) - [Pony Club](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/pony-club) - Camp - [Summer Camp](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/summer-camp) - [Equine Studies](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/equine-studies) - Facility - [Boarding](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/boarding) - [History](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/history) - [Testimonials](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/testimonials) - [Calendar](https://hopoti.com/en-us/stable/ThomasSchoolofHorsemanship) ##### Subscribe to our newsletter ![footer-map](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Assets/Footer/footer-map.png?width=503&height=264&name=footer-map.png)   ###### Phone [+1 (631) 692-6840](tel:+16316926840) ###### Email [ride@thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com](mailto:ride@thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com) © 2026 | [Privacy Policy](https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/privacy-policy?hsLang=en) ```json { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@graph": [ { "@type": ["SportsActivityLocation", "EducationalOrganization", "LocalBusiness"], "name": "Thomas School of Horsemanship", "mainEntityOfPage":{ "@type":"WebPage", "@id":"https://www.thomasschoolofhorsemanship.com/clinics", "description": "Join specialized riding clinics on Long Island with clinicians such as Olympian Bernie Traurig.
